1965 Shelby Early Original Style R-Model Port Hole Hood

THIS IS A SPECIAL ORDER ITEM
This is an exact duplicate of the original fiberglass hood used on the 1965 Shelby R-Model. It features a port on the underside which meets with the air plenum used instead of an air filter/cleaner on the original R-model cars. This allows the hood scoop to deliver air directly to the carburetor.
We recommend this hood for customers who are either restoring an original R-model or building an exact style replica car.
So... Which one is the best?!
We get this question all the time. We offer at least 4 styles of this same hood. If one was "the best" we would only sell that one. It really depends on what you are looking for and what you plan on doing with your car and your budget. Keep in mind the following are general guidelines and aren't written in stone.
Style A: Fiberglass with partial steel frame. Standard gel coated sprayed fiberglass. Has some structural support for added rigidity. Steel is enclosed in fiberglass where hinges attach and across the back of hood. A great choice for the daily driver. Medium price range.
Style B: Full fiberglass construction. Standard gel coated sprayed fiberglass. The lightest hood we offer. Only has metal where the hinges bolt on. The webbing underside is all fiberglass. An excellent choice for race or track cars. Least expensive hood we offer.
Style C: Fiberglass with full steel frame. Standard gel coated sprayed fiberglass hood with the under structure (webbing) being metal. Strong hood, also heavy. Mostly for concours restorations and show cars. Not as great for daily driver or track cars. Medium price range.
Style D: Most recently available model is made of vacuum formed fiberglass for a superior fit. Has a full steel frame webbing on the underside. Hood requires some additional prep work prior to painting as it isn't gel coated (manufacturing process is different). Best fitting hood, good for most applications but is also the most expensive.
Early R-Model Port Hole Hood: This special hood has a function port hole built into the bottom of the air scoop which mates with the aluminum carb plenum used on most R-model cars (they don't use an air filter). Expensive hood is a special order item and really only useful for an R-model restoration or if you are trying to build an exact R-model copy.
